- What to Bring
Cusco - Rainbow Mountain - Cusco
This tour begins with your VERY EARLY hotel pick-up. (Approximately 4am to 5am). We will head towards the south Valley of Cusco on a paved road to the small town of Checacupe. We then head East to to Pitumarca where we will stop for a breakfast buffet (approx 7:40 AM). We then continue to the native community of Pampachiri. This is where our vehicle will wait for us for our return to Cusco. Here you can buy small snacks or drinks for the hike.
We will then start the short hike and pass through the control point. Very soon afterwards, the locals of the area will give you the opportunity to rent their horses if you are having any altitude symptoms or do not want to walk. Our guide will be available to help you negotiate a price for this service, should you decide to choose this option.
At approximately 9am, we will start the hike which will take about 2.5 hrs to the rainbow mountain.
Here, you will have some free time to take pictures and you may also walk to the highest point which reaches 5200m (17,000ft).
Please take note of the times which your guides recommend, as it is possible that you may suffer from the altitude if you spend longer at this elevation that recommended. Â After our visit to the mountain, we will return to Pampachiri, walking via the same trail. Where our transport will be waiting for us. We will return to Pitumarca for our buffet lunch at approx. 1:30 p.m.
After lunch we will return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 6:00 p.m. where our transport will take you back to your hotel.Â

More about Rainbow Mountain
We recommend a good physical condition AND adequate acclimatization for this trek (minimum of 2 days in Cusco or at a similar altitude). Our guides will take a standard first aid kit and oxygen tank for emergencies.Â
*We recommend hiking boots or comfortable footwear as we will be walking along high-altitude mountain trails.
* Small day pack for your camera, sunhat, beany, sunblock and water, waterbottles (reusable, not disposable), personal medical kit, extra money for souvenirs, drinks, tips, toilet paper
* Like all high mountain hiking we recommend a windbreaker and waterproof clothing as well as a dry t shirt to change into for the journey back to Cusco. We also recommend that you take your preferred snacks for extra energy on the hike.
