Cusco - Qoricancha - Sacsayhuaman - Qenqo - Pukapukara - Tambomachay
The tour of the City of Cusco and its surrounding areas is the best way to see the main sites and get to know this Inca city. The tour starts with your hotel pick-up at 1:00pm and finishes at approximately 6:30pm.
The first place we will visit is the Inca temple of the Sun or “Qoricancha” and The Convent of Santo Domingo. This religious center was an Inca temple until the Spanish arrived and built the Santa Domingo church. After this, we will visit the archaeological complex of Sacsayhuaman, situated 3kms outside of Cusco. This impressive Inca fortress made of gigantic stones and a fantastic example of Inca architecture. This site is famous for the gigantic stones, some of which are 9 m/ 30 feet high and weigh more than 350 tons! Here is where the famous Inti Raymi festival takes place (Festival of the sun) in June, each year.
We then visit Qenqo, the ceremonial and ritual site which was an Amphitheatre for ritual sacrifices to the sun, Stars and the “Apus” (Sacred Mountains).
We then continue to Puca-Pucara and ancient resting place and where the Inca’s stored agricultural products and also a lookout point protecting many Inca road’s and entrances into Cusco. Finally, we will visit Tambomachay, which is 7 Km. away from the city of Cusco. This was a ceremonial site for worshipping water. After which, we will return back to Cusco.
