Cusco - Pisaq - Urubamba - Ollantaytambo - Chinchero - Cusco
On this tour, you will be able to visit some of the most interesting places where the Incas built their temples, fortresses and Sacred Cities. This was due to the unnaturally warm climate and incredibly fertile valley, which produced many of the crops for the Inca empire. You will also learn about the history of the area and the Inca architecture. You will be able to gaze at the beautiful scenery including the river Vilcanota and the stunning snow peaks of the surrounding mountains.
The tour starts with your hotel pick-up at 7:30am. From here, we will first visit the ‘Awanacancha’ Project. This is a textile center which produces textiles using the traditional methods of the area and where we can see the local people, their Alpacas and how they produce the wool for their traditional weaving techniques.
Afterwards, we will continue following the Vilcanota River for a panoramic view of The Sacred Valley. We will visit the amazing archaeological site situated above the mountain called “Pisaqa”, after which we will visit the traditional market town of Pisaq, where we will have the opportunity to experience local customs of the native people.
After Pisaq, we will continue on to the market town of Urubamba, where we will have a buffet lunch in a popular local restaurant and where you can sample some of the local cuisine.
In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which was constructed to control the entrance into the Sacred Valley and protect from possible invasions from the local inhabitants of the high jungle regions, during Inca times. We will have the opportunity to walk through the characteristic narrow, cobbled streets of the town and get a clear idea about how this was a strategic military, religious and cultural center in Inca times.
On our return back to Cusco, we will visit the picturesque mountain town of Chinchero where we will find the remains of the hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. We can marvel at the amazingly preserved Inca walls in the principal plaza and we will visit the beautiful colonial temple with its interesting, fresh porches built over the base of an Inca construction.
