Day 1

Cusco – Awanacancha – Pisaq – Urubamba - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

Your tour will begin with your hotel pick-up at 7.30am where we will first visit the traditional weaving complex of Awanacancha. Here, you will come up close to the alpacas and llamas, native to the area as well as the traditional weaving methods which are still used to this day.

We will then continue our journey crossing the vilcanota river for a panoramic view of the Inca citadel of Pisaq where we will be able to experience the local customs of the villagers.

We will then continue our journey to the market town of Urubamba where we will stop for a buffet lunch.

After lunch we will continue on to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which was constructed by the Incas to control any invasions from the south part of the valley from the native jungle communities below. We will have the opportunity to walk through the narrow-cobbled streets and get a better understanding of why this was the perfect military lookout, religious and cultural site for the Incas.

After the tour of the archaeological site, we will continue to the train station in Ollantaytambo to take our train to Aguas Calientes. On arrival we will take you to your hotel and our guide will explain about your guided tour of Machu Picchu the following day.

Day 2

Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

We will start the day very early with a hearty breakfast at your hotel. At approx. 5:50 a.m. we will head towards the bus station for the shuttle bus up to Machu Picchu. This journey takes approximately 25 minutes when we will reach the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, hopefully in time for the impressive sunrise.

After passing through the control point, we will start our guided tour of the Citadel of Machu Picchu. Our guide will tell you all about the history, the architecture and the flora and fauna of the area. You will be stunned by the Inca constructions, still visible to this day and of course the natural geographical surroundings of this remarkable place. After the tour, you will have some free time to appreciate the site to continue exploring, take photos and absorb the energies of this incredible site.

We will return to Aguas Calientes on the shuttle bus where you can spend a little time, have lunch etc. Then we will board our train back to the town of Ollantaytambo where our transfer to Cusco will be waiting for us.

Train times and arrival time to Cusco will depend on the type of train you have chosen. Usually we will arrive in Cusco around 8pm and you will be dropped off at your hotel.

The safest and quickest way to arrive to Machu Picchu is the train. There are 2 options of trains for this journey. The route is the same, however, the class of train and the included services are what makes the difference.

OPTION 1: “Expedition” - Peru Rail or “Executive” - Inca Rail:
Both of these options are tourist class and have allocated seats, plenty of leg room and a relaxed journey where you will be able to appreciate the spectacular views, through the larger than normal windows. Your journey really does start with this stunning journey by train!

OPTION 2: Vistadome Panoramic Train
This option is the next class up, completely surrounded by windows, with more spacious carriages and offering a more panoramic view of the surrounding countryside and spectacular glaciers and mountains. You will have an array of opportunities to take impressive photos of the valley and feel a part of this incredible scenery characteristic of Peru. Peru Rail offers a more personalized service. This Vistadome service also has air conditioning, heating and large, leather seats offering a more comfortable journey, after a long day. They also serve snacks and drinks on route.
