Key points from our booking policies
This is a summary of our key terms. For complete details and full legal terms, please review our complete Terms and Conditions document.
Inca Trail permits are strictly regulated by the Peruvian government and limited to 500 people per day (including guides and porters). When you book with us, we handle the permit process for you. You must provide your passport details at the time of booking, as permits are non-transferable and require exact passport information.
We strongly recommend booking 4-6 months in advance, especially for the dry season (May-September). Peak months like June-August can sell out even earlier. Once permits are gone, there's no way to get additional spots. February bookings are not available as the trail closes for maintenance.
The 4-day Inca Trail is rated as challenging. You'll trek 42km (26 miles) over four days, with Day 2 being the most demanding climbing 1,200m to Dead Woman's Pass at 4,215m. Good physical fitness is essential. We recommend training with hiking and cardio exercises for 2-3 months before your trek.
Yes, altitude can affect anyone regardless of fitness level. The trek reaches 4,215m at Dead Woman's Pass. We recommend spending 2-3 days in Cusco (3,400m) before the trek for acclimatization. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, drink coca tea, and consider altitude medication after consulting your doctor. Our guides carry emergency oxygen.
We provide quality 4-season dome tents (2-person capacity), comfortable foam sleeping mats, a dining tent with tables and chairs, and a private toilet tent. Porters set up and break down camp for you. You'll receive hot water for washing each morning and evening. Nights are cold (temperatures can drop near freezing), so warm sleeping bag is essential.
Porters carry all camping equipment, food, and up to 7kg of your personal items in a duffel bag. You carry a daypack (25-35L) with water, snacks, camera, rain gear, warm layer, and personal essentials. Keep your passport, money, and valuables with you at all times.
The best time is during the dry season from April to October, with May to September being peak months. June-August offers the driest weather but coldest nights. The rainy season (November-March) brings wet trails and reduced visibility, though fewer crowds. The trail closes every February for maintenance.
If you cannot continue due to health reasons, our guide will arrange for you to be evacuated safely. This may involve being carried out on horseback to the nearest accessible point. Travel insurance with emergency evacuation coverage is mandatory. Unfortunately, no refunds are available for incomplete treks.
Basic toilet facilities exist at campsites along the trail. We also provide a private portable toilet tent for our groups for added comfort and hygiene. Bring toilet paper and hand sanitizer for convenience. There are no shower facilities on the trail, but we provide hot water for washing.
There are no charging facilities on the trail until you reach Aguas Calientes on Day 4. We recommend bringing a portable power bank (10,000-20,000mAh) and fully charging all devices before starting. Conserve battery by putting devices in airplane mode and limiting photo/video use.
Tipping is customary and appreciated. Recommended amounts: Guide - $30-50 USD per group; Cook - $20-30 USD per group; Porters - $70-100 USD total for the porter team (typically 10-12 porters). Tips are usually collected and distributed at the farewell dinner on Day 3 or morning of Day 4. Bring small bills in Soles or USD.
